Trade Associations
Establish formal partnership with OIA and EOG
The Eco Index is a tool with great potential for applicability to other industries and sectors. OIA and EOG welcome the involvement of other trade associations to learn more about the Eco Index and its potential for use outside the outdoor industry.
If your trade association is interested in a partnership with OIA and EOG, please contact:
Amy Roberts, VP of Government Affairs, OIA aroberts@outdoorindustry.org
Beth Jensen, Corporate Responsibility Manager, OIA bjensen@outdoorindustry.org
Encourage your member companies to participate in the Beta Eco Index Phase 1 Pilot Program
OIA and EOG recognize the importance of gathering feedback from industry stakeholders to inform the content of the Beta Phase 1 Eco Index and ensure its usability by the industry. As such, all interested companies are invited to participate in the Eco Index pilot program, scheduled to begin in August 2010. The pilot program will have two phases (companies may participate in one or both phases):
1.Practice application of the Eco Index using a generic BOM (bill of materials)
- Participants will be encouraged to take at least two products listed in the BOM through the Eco Index
Estimated time commitment: 4-6 hours per BOM product plus webinars and/or conference calls as applicable to share feedback
2.Application of the Eco Index to your company’s products
- Participants will be encouraged to take at least three separate products through the pilot using the online scoring tool
Estimated time commitment: TBD depending on each company’s level of knowledge and resources
Webinars will be held in conjunction with the pilot program to help guide participants through the process. Webinar schedule (link to Events Calendar page)

Encourage your member companies to participate in the development of the Eco Index Phase 2
Beginning in early 2011, development of the Phase 2 Eco Index components will begin. OIA and EOG will be forming subgroups to create content within the Transportation and Distribution life cycle stage as well as to complete the remaining footprinting metrics.
OIA and EOG members should watch for communication around the formation of these subgroups in late 2010.
Encourage your member companies to join the OIA Eco Working Group and the EOG Sustainability Working Group
The financial support of outdoor industry companies has enabled the Eco Index initiative to become a reality. Please visit Outdoor Industry Association and/or European Outdoor Group to learn more about the benefits of membership.
