Goals and Timeline
Goals of the Eco Index include:
- Leveraging global partners (such as the European Outdoor Group) and established resources to speed the implementation of best business practices
- Achieving accessibility and ease of use for companies of all sizes
- Showing companies the business case for implementation
- Harmonizing with existing standards/tools by referencing and/or building upon them
- Starting small and building ‘deeper and broader’ over time
- Providing sufficient value in the marketplace to sustain itself
The current focus of the index is to be an internal/supply chain facing tool and not a consumer-facing label. This focus could be revisited in future years.
Upcoming Eco Index Milestones:
July/August 2010 Launch of BETA Phase 1 Eco Index
Fall 2010 Conduct peer review and piloting of BETA Phase 1 Eco Index
January 2011 Formal rollout of Phase 1 Eco Index Phase 2 content development begins
