The Eco Index initiative has been driven by a variety of outdoor industry stakeholders.
 
Membership in the EcoIndex process is entirely voluntary. Currently the only paid roles are those of the non-profit convening and process management organization—Zero Waste Alliance (ZWA).
 
Involvement in the process to evolve these tools is open to all who fit a loose description of a ‘stakeholder’ in the supply chain process”. Additionally other interested individuals—which may include academia, governmental and non-governmental organizations, are welcome to participate. Consultants are encouraged to participate in the project, recognizing all time spent—although often informative and rewarding—is on a pro-bono basis.
 
Organizations who wish to have a vote (one vote per organization) in major decisions and formal index component approvals, may do so in accordance with the the working group operating guidelines.
